We invest in global capital markets with a top-down approach based on our analysis of current macroeconomic conditions and evolving macroeconomic trends in the US, Europe, and Asia. We seek absolute returns primarily in deep, liquid markets. Past and present investment themes include the decade-long Japanese recession, the rise of China and the resulting strengthening of the Chinese currency, the prevalence of the yen carry trade and the associated risks/rewards of betting against such one-way bet, the weakening of the US dollar and subsequent safe haven status as a reserve currency, and the collapse of the British pound. Should opportunities arise, we also invest in select public and private equity deals when we believe our analysis reveals compelling investment thesis and prevailing market price/deal terms offer attractive value on a risk-adjusted basis.
